Charles J. Wertswa Gunners Mate 3/c - Jersey City, NJ 1943-47
Edward Marsh Division 1 as a S 1/c and was killed when we were hit by a Japanese Kamikaze Submarine on January 12, 1945. He was the only sailor ever killed on the Mazama during WWII. 1944-45
Frank A. Rice Chief Radioman - Passed away on trip back from WestPac Cruise 1966 - Indian Ocean 1965-66
Gordon Simms First Lt. Served on-board for recommissioning in Orlando, Florida. Passed away in 2004. 1961-62
Herman Smith First Division Bill, Smitty was a Recommissioning plank owner, in 1961. Came aboard as BM3, in the First Division. Made 2nd Class before He left in 1963. Retired as Chief. Don't know if He made E-8 or E-9 Bill, even when I was a Seaman, Smitty treated me well. He was a great guy. The way He was suffering, it was a Blessing that He passed away. In talking to Him, He was prepared to Ship out. Best Regards, Paul
